The Castelli Romani (Roman Castles) are a group of medieval villages so called due to the fortifications built on the hills by various Roman aristocratic families. They are located south-east of Rome, around the lake of Albano, in a volcanic area that originated a few hundred thousand years ago. It is the Romans’ favorite place to spend the warm summer evenings tasting local food and wine. The history of the Castelli Romani is as old as the history of Rome. The famous city of Castel Gandolfo was for a long period the summer residence of the Popes, who during the summer months spent a period of rest away from the Vatican City. The countryside of Rome, a beautiful quiet and non touristy area. The famous Sabina region and the town of Frascati, located in the castle area, are important historical sites where you can taste the typical olive oil and local wine and where the landscape is a tapestry of olive groves, vineyards and stunning hilltop villages and ancient monasteries, rich in medieval architecture and tradition.
