The city of Tivoli, located on an ancient road built by the Romans called Tiburtina, is situated at the foot of the Simbruini Hills. A wonderful landscape of extensive valleys rich in water and famous for its Travertine marble quarries which was used for the construction of the colosseum. The beauty of this city and of its area led to its inclusion in the Grand Tour made by artists and young rich European aristocrats starting from the 17th century in order to complete their knowledge their knowledge of ancient history and Roman architecture.
The two villas in Tivoli are considered the symbol of ancient Tibur. Villa Adriana and Villa D’Este are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You cannot miss the water play of Villa D’Este; the stateliness of Hadrian’s Villa, the ancient residence of Emperor Hadrian, with its precious floors and decoration. Villa D’Este was built by the rich and powerful Cardinal from the renaissance time called Ippolito D’Este. One of the best expressions of Renaissance Architecture with all the frescoes used to decorate the private rooms, the outdoor gardens with the famous fountains.
After visiting the Hadrian’s Villa you will have free time to visit the narrow streets of Tivoli and stop for a lunch break, right in Tivoli there is one of the most famous and old restaurants of the area located right by a waterfall and next to a II sec. B.C. Roman Temple.
The tour starts at 7:30AM. Your driver will meet you right under the ship, holding a sign with your last name on it. Our vehicles and our drivers are fully authorized by the Port Authority to pick-you and drop you off up right under the ship. You will not need to take any shuttle bus. Your driver will constantly monitor time in order to have you back to the ship not later than 5:30PM at the latest.
